What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

Posted by waremock on Thursday Mar 26, 2009 Under Uncategorized

All this talk about “stimulus packages” and “bailouts”…

A billion dollars…

A hundred billion dollars…

Eight hundred billion dollars…

One TRILLION dollars…

What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats. We’ll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

$100

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2″ thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

$10,000

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

$1,000,000 (one million dollars)

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet…

$100,000,000 (one hundred million dollars)

And $1 BILLION dollars… now we’re really getting somewhere…

$1,000,000,000 (one billion dollars)

Next we’ll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we’ve been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it’s a million million. It’s a thousand billion. It’s a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?

It’s pretty surprising.

Go ahead…

Scroll down…Ladies and gentlemen… I give you $1 trillion dollars

$1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion dollars)

(And notice those pallets are double stacked.)

So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase “trillion dollars”… that’s what they’re talking about.

Tracking Visitors

Posted by waremock on Friday Jan 16, 2009 Under Uncategorized

One of the things that website owners want to know is how many visitors come to visit your website. A simple way of doing this is to add a widget like the one on this site called Live FeedJit. It is actually really easy to add to your website or blog, all you do is copy the code that they give you into the location where you want on your website. The only problem about tracking users this way is that the user can remove their IP address from being tracked. So for example let’s say that someone from Kansas visits your website, all they have to do is remove their IP from the Live feed and instead of saying specifically where they are from, it will only say that they came from the United States. So it really does not help for accurate demographics, especially if you want to somehow target visitors from a particular area like Kansas.

This is where a really neat program comes in, a program I have been using for several years, Google analytics. This is a more robust program to use for your website. Again it’s very easy to use, all you do is put the code before the “</body>” tag. As soon as you do this it will begin to track detailed information about your users. With this information you can run detailed reports on your visitors.

For example, let’s say you wanted to know how many visitors you have coming from Kansas and what times of the day they visit, plus what are they viewing. Well all you have to do is run a report with those criteria and you will have a really nice report with this information. Another neat thing is, suppose that you have a members only section on your website that is password protected. You can run a report to see if multiple users are sharing the same login, this is really important, expecially if you have information that you only want certain people to see.

If you have a different product that you use, please share it with the rest of us.
